Ai-Ai de las Alas plays offbeat role in Cinemalaya debut

Ai-Ai de las Alas has been voted Box Office Queen, won Best Actress award in both the FAMAS and Metro Manila Film Festival, awarded the PMPC Star Awards for TV, and earned the title Concert Comedy Queen. Having won these numerous honors, Ai-Ai is now yearning for a Gawad Urian recognition.

The veteran comedienne plays dramatic in an indie film that just might give her that honor.

Ai-Ai plays stars in “Ronda,” one of the 10 films in the New Breed category of the 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. The film is about a policewoman who patrols the seedy streets of Manila while she handles her own personal problems.

The actress said she feels good about the film and would be very happy if it figures prominently in the awards not only in Cinemalaya but also in Urian and the international film festivals.

“Ronda” also stars Cesar Montano, Julian Trono, Carlo Aquino, and Angeli Bayani.

The film is written by Adolfo Alix, Jr. and Jerome Zamora, and directed by Nick Olanka, it will have its Cinemalaya festival run from August 2 to 10.
