Angel Locsin reprises Darna role

Award-winning actress Angel Locsin will fly again as the modern version of the Pinay super heroine Darna, this time on the big screen via the Star Cinema movie set to hit the big screen in 2014.

The 28-year-old Kapamilya actress first played the role on television in 2005 when she was still in GMA-7. In 2007, the actress moved to ABS-CBN. Last year, ABS-CBN acquired the rights to several Mars Ravelo titles including Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel.

Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos said they have already completed the script regarding Darna’s past and is currently brainstorming for the continuation of the story. The film outfit is targeting next year for the start of filming.

The fictional character Darna first appeared in the May 13, 1950 #77 issue of Pilipino Komiks as a creation of writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo. The village girl Narda transforms into Darna, and vice versa, by shouting out their respective names, Darna to become Darna, Narda to become Narda.

First, however, Narda has to swallow the white stone, a tiny meteorite from outer space. As Darna, she becomes a mighty warrior whose powers include flight, super strength, super speed and near-invulnerability.
