Angelia Ong makes it back to back for PH

The Philippines made history by way of a back-to-back win in the Miss Earth beauty pageant since it started in 2001.

Angelia Ong succeeds last year’s winner fellow Filipina Jamie Herrell to become the new Miss Earth during the coronation night held Saturday, December 5 (early morning of Sunday in Manila), at the Marx Halle in Vienna, Austria. Angelia beat out 85 other ladies for the crown. With her win, the Philippines has won the Miss Earth title three times; Karla Henry won the title in 2008 and Jamie in 2014.

The 25-year-old titleholder is a Marketing Management graduate from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. She does part-time consultancy work at Manila City Hall and at a marketing firm. During the question and answer portion of the pageant, Angelia was asked to come up with slogan for the next 15 years of Miss Earth. Angelia answered, “We will, because we can.”

The other winners are Dayanna Grageda of Australia, Miss Earth-Air (first runner-up); Brittany Payne of USA, Miss Earth-Water (second runner-up); and Thiessa Sickert of Brazil, Miss Earth-Fire (third runner-up).

The Miss Earth pageant is considered as among the world’s four largest beauty pageants, along with the Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss International.
