Annabelle Rama seeks Cebu congressional seat

The feisty mother of showbiz stars Ruffa, Richard and Raymond Gutierrez is definitely joining the Cebu political fray.

Annabelle Rama officially joined the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) when she took her oath as member of former President Joseph Estrada’s political party at the latter’s residence in Greenhills, San Juan.

Rama is running as representative of Cebu’s City’s first district under the slogan “Annabelle para sa mahirap.” The north district of Cebu covers 46 barangays with a voting population of 240,000.

The former actress said will pursue children’s welfare as well as infrastructure as the platform of her candidacy. She added that she will be a capable and corruption-free lawmaker and is even willing to donate half of her salary as talent manager to the district.

This early, Rama has been tagged as the incoming “Loudspeaker of the House.” Some political observers said the political joke may work to her advantage in fighting against the powerful Del Mar political dynasty.

However, Rama will be hounded by issues involving competence and character. There are also controversies she is currently involved in which has been the subject of extensive media coverage, like the one involving actress Nadia Montenegro and her children. In addition, she has spent much of her time in Manila and needs to exert effort to familiarize herself with the needs of the north district constituents.

Notwithstanding these issues, the Gutierrez family assured that they will back Rama’s political aspirations.
