Barbie Forteza learns from Superstar Nora Aunor

Teen star Barbie Forteza got the chance to learn from seasoned veterans like Nora Aunor while filming the Cinemalaya entry “Tuos.”

The indie movie was shot in the Bucari mountains of Iloilo. Nora plays the character of Elena, the village “Binukot” or the fairest amongst the women in her village. She is confined inside her house, never allowed to go outside. Barbie plays Letty, the rebellious granddaughter who defied the tribe’s tradition by resisting following in her footsteps. Barbie prepared for her role in “Tuos” by watching the 2004 “I-Witness” documentary, “Ang Huling Prinsesa.” She also had to learn the Kinaray-a language.

Barbie said Nora was a consistently generous coworker and helped her out during heavy scenes. The Superstar even shared practical advice on longevity and tips on coping up with the trappings of showbiz life.

At this early stage in her career, the GMA 7 teen star has already won two acting awards. She was adjudged best supporting actress at the Cinemalaya for the 2014 entry, Milo Sogueco’s “Mariquina.” For Louie Ignacio’s indie drama, “Laut,” she won best actress in the Directors’ Week section of the Fantasporto or the 36th Oporto International Film Festival, held in Portugal last March.

“Tuos” is directed by Derick Cabrido and is currently shown at the ongoing 2016 Cinemalaya fest at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Ayala Cinemas. The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival aims to encourage the creation of new cinematic works by Filipino filmmakers. Each year, ten fresh talents are given a seed grant in order to create the film of their dreams.
