Celebrities cheer Pacquiao’s victory

Manny Pacquiao entered the ring in Macau with the gigantic task of fighting for his devastated homeland. The Filipino boxing icon knows that the fight was watched all over central Philippines, where super typhoon Yolanda wrecked havoc claiming thousands of lives and billions of damages in properties.

His dominating victory against the younger, heavier American Brandon Rios no doubt instantly fired up the morale of victims, aid workers and ordinary Filipinos who have been looking for anything to lift up their spirits.

Filipino celebrities and international stars as well, showed unwavering support for Pacquiao. Seen among the audience were US socialite Paris Hilton, Filipina-American singer Jessica Sanchez who sang the Philippine National Anthem, and British football star David Beckham.

Among local showbiz personalities who watched the fight live at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena in Macau were showbiz couple Annabelle Rama and Eddie Gutierrez accompanied by daughter Ruffa and Richard’s girlfriend Sarah Lahbati. Brothers Senator Tito and Vic Sotto are also in Macau for the fight. GMA-7 Dingdong Dantes and Kapamilya showbiz couple Maja Salvador and Gerald Anderson also made sure to watch Manny fight Rios.

Other celebrities who went to Macau are Phil Younghusband, Steven Silva, Rocco Nacino, JC de Vera, Manila Mayor Erap Estrada, Cesar Montano, Philip Salvador and singer Apl.de.Ap.

For Pacquiao, the biggest victory of all is his ability to fight for and inspire his fellow Filipinos. In the words of David Beckham, “The fight is going to put a smile on the people’s faces in the Philippines.’”
