Celebrities lauded Pacquiao for beating Bradley

Last February, Manny Pacquiao provoked a storm of controversy after saying people in same-sex relationships “are worse than animals”. The remark drew flak from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community (LGBT), and a number of celebrities criticized the boxing champion for his statement. Pacquiao has since apologized for the comment, saying he did not mean to offend the LGBT community but maintained that he’s not for same-sex marriage.

This time a number of celebrities congratulated Pacquiao as he scored a resounding victory over American Tim Bradley on Sunday, April 10 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Filipino boxing icon knocked down Bradley twice on his way to a comfortable unanimous decision.

Among the celebrities who congratulated the 37-year-old champion include Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, Gary Valenciano, Matteo Guidicelli, Iza Calzado who was in Las Vegas for the fight, Ruffa Gutierrez, and basketball stars Chris Tiu and Jeron Teng.

The bout was the third encounter between the two boxers. Bradley won the first fight in 2012 only to be defeated in their second match-up in 2014. Pacquiao fought for the first time since his defeat to Floyd Mayweather last year in the “Fight of the Century”.

Pacquiao was definitive that he is retiring after the 66th bout of his 21-year career. He is running in the May 9 elections for a seat in the powerful Senate under the banner of the opposition UNA party.
