Chiz Escudero’s love life caught on Senate debate

A recent Senate debate on the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) Bill unexpectedly dragged Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s love life as five male senators questioned the inclusion of the phrase “safe and satisfying sex life” in the definition of the Bill.

Senators Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Jinggoy Estrada, Sergio “Serge” Osmeña III, and Escudero were curious and at times laughing during the lengthy and loaded debate which was sparked by an amendment that Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile introduced, removing the phrase “This (RH) implies that people are able to have a safe and satisfying sex life, that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide, if, when and how often to do so.”

Sen. Pia Cayetano, the bill’s principal sponsor, rejected the amendment, triggering the debate.

Yet it was Escudero’s question that drew the most laughs as he said he was not comfortable with the phrase, prompting Cayetano to ask if the problem lies with the word safe or satisfying. Escudero replied it was the phrase being used in the law that was his problem.

Cayetano then said she assumed Escudero will have a wife again because he is currently in a relationship, obviously referring to the latter’s affair with actress Heart Evangelista.

Escudero who is already separated from his wife said it was another matter but later on laughed out loud.

After the debate, the Senate voted 6-11 to reject Enrile’s move to remove the phrase.
