The longest running noon time variety show on Philippine television ‘Eat Bulaga’ officially premiered in Indonesia on 16 July 2012.
The Indonesian version bears the same title and is also loaded with entertainment, games, prizes, and inspiration. EB’s “Pinoy Henyo” became “Indonesia Pintar” while other segments of the show have also their Indonesian version including “One For All, All For One,” “Bolagaan,” and “Karaoke Stud.”
The first EB international franchise similarly boasts of the equivalent of “dabarkads”— the collective term for the “EB” hosts. “Bossing” Vic Sotto’s Indonesian counterpart is Uya Kuya, who is called “Boss Uya.”
Other hosts of EB Indonesia are Aja Farid, Reza No, Ramzi, Narji, Ciripa, Rian Ibram, Rio Indrawan, Steven, Selena Alexandria, Jenny Tan, Bianca Lizza, Julie Christie, and Leo Consul..
Incidentally, co-host Leo Consul hails from Pangasinan and is an alumnus of the University of the Philippines-Baguio. Reports have it that he has been in Indonesia since last year working as an English teacher. He is also a member of the Indonesian pop (I-pop) group, RIS3.
EB Indonesia has been making waves for a little over a week now, and Consul is very proud that a Filipino program is being warmly received abroad.
The franchise deal between Surya Citra Televisi (SCTV) and the EB management was sealed in June. However SCTV director of programs and production Harsiwi Achmad said the network had wanted to meet with the EB management since five years ago.
