Empoy, Alessandra movie hits 200M in box office

Empoy Marquez’s first starrer with Alessandra “Alex” de Rossi has blasted the box-office.

The movie “Kita Kita” has raked in more than P200 million and is predicted to hit the P300M mark or more as soon as it completes its nationwide screening. More impressively, “Kita Kita,” said to have been produced on a shoe-string budget of P10 million, was pitted against the proven blockbuster tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo.

For more than a decade, Empoy, whose real name is Julius Erman Ramos Marquez, has been doing small roles. A day after the movie opened, Empoy has become the Man of the Hour. Unwittingly, he has revolutionized the image of a Leading Man in Filipino movies and has earned the title of Box-Office Prince.

Empoy got into showbiz when he won the Mr. Swabe contest in Magandang Tanghali Bayan (MTB) in 2003. He was then cast in the movie with the same title with Vhong Navarro. More projects followed including Wansapanataym, Ok Fine Whatever, Wattamen, and some indie movies. He also co-hosted MTB Ang Saya-Saya. He was also in Super Inggo, Minamahal and Bora-Bora. His big break was Mac & Chiz in TV5 with Derek Ramsay.

“Kita Kita” is directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo. It tells the endearing love story about a temporarily-blind girl (Lea) falling for a kind-hearted guy (Tonyo).
