Eugene Domingo hopes to be crowned Box-Office Queen

Eugene Domingo holds the record of being the first lead actress in Philippine cinema to star in the most number of films in a year. She has also won several acting awards as well as being declared the People’s Choice for Best Actress at the last Asian Film Awards.

Yet she still cherishes for something which she believes will be a big achievement in her acting career; that of being acknowledged as a box office queen someday.

The dream should not be far-fetched for the diminutive comedienne, actress, theater performer, and host rolled into one since her past movies were certified box-office hits.

While waiting for her latest movie “Kimmy Dora and The Temple of Kyeme” to hit the theaters on June 13, Eugene admitted that she is hoping the sequel would duplicate the box office record of the 2009 original which reportedly grossed P81 million during its run.

Eugene plays two different characters in the movie opposite two leading men, Dingdong Dantes and Zanjoe Marudo. The film was mostly shot in South Korea.

An alumna of the UP Theatre Arts program, Eugene apprenticed as an actress, production and stage management staff at the university’s theatre company Dulaang UP before pursuing a career in the big screen.
