Jessy Mendiola is South Korea’s honorary envoy

In a bid to lure more Filipino tourists to South Korea, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) recently announced the appointment of Filipina actress Jessy Mendiola as its honorary ambassador in the country.

Jessy went on a five-day trip to the capital Seoul where she attended a ceremonial appointment and meeting with KTO Chairman Charm Lee.

The 20-year-old celerity also met with K-pop group 2NE1 member Sandara Park, a South Korean who first gained popularity during her stay in the Philippines after joining ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Quest. Sandara later left for Korea to pursue a showbiz career there. In 2009, she took on the name “Dara” as a member of the K-pop girl group 2NE1.

Jessy was born in the United Arab Emirates of a Filipino mother and a half Lebanese, half British father. She was one of the 18 new talents launched by ABS CBN under Star Magic Batch 15.

Currently she stars as Maria Mercedes in the remake of the 1992 Mexican telenovela of the same title starring Thalia and Arturo Peniche. The ABS CBN series which premiered on October 7, 2013 also stars Jake Cuenca and Jason Abalos.

Other celebrities conferred as honorary ambassadors by KTO include Gangnam Style artist Psy and Jay Park, Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan, taekwondo master Roger Piarulli and American actress Moon Bloodgood.
