JM De Guzman enjoys the best of both worlds

Actor JM de Guzman said being part of independent films has helped him improve his craft as an actor.

The young actor, who topbills Cinemalaya’s “Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino,” also admitted that he has become more professional compared to his earlier years in the entertainment industry.

JM said he has become more patient and grateful for all the opportunities coming his way adding that he enjoys doing both indie films and mainstream works. Having done a handful of independent films, he acknowledged that it permit more room for experimentation allowing him to explore his artistry further.

In his latest indie film, his fourth Cinemalaya film in a row, JM plays the title role of a fisherman who fell in love with a prostitute. Director Lem Lorca says JM captured all the essence of the role as written in the Palanca Award-winning short story of Eros Atalia and the script of Jerry Gracio.

Also starring LJ Reyes, Joross Gamboa, Arnold Reyes and Kenneth Salva, “Intoy Syokoy” is one of the 10 finalists at the 2012 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition’s New Breed Full Length Feature Category to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

There will be also showing of the entries at Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma from July 20 to 29, 2012.
