Maria Aragon to perform before Prince William, wife

Filipina YouTube sensation Maria Aragon is set to perform in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton during the celebration of Canada’s 144th birthday on July 1.

The royal couple’s visit to Canada marks their first official trip as Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They are set to arrive on June 30 and will be welcomed by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Heritage Minister James Moore and Governor General David Johnston.

Aragon, who is representing Winnipeg, is among the hundred performers that will be featured during the celebrations.

The young Pinay singer gained prominence after she performed a Lady Gaga song on YouTube. She previously appeared in a Hollywood Talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, and has also performed with Broadway star Lea Salonga and Lady Gaga herself.

The celebration of the centennial of Parks Canada and the 120th anniversary of the Canadian invention of basketball is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Other Canadian talents that will perform include the Newfoundland band Great Big Sea, Quebec’s Sam Roberts Band, Dan Mangan from British Columbia, Elisapie Issac from Nunavut and folk singer Jenn Grant from Prince Edward Islands.
