Maxine Medina gets support from former beauty queens

On the eve of the 65th Miss Universe pageant, former beauty titlists took time to give advice to Maxine Medina, the country’s bet to the prestigious international beauty contest.

Gloria Diaz, the 1969 titlist and the very first Filipino to win the Miss Universe crown, said Maxine can use an interpreter if she thinks she can better explain herself using Filipino. She added that it won’t make Maxine less of a beauty queen if she will decide to use the Filipino language on the Grand Coronation.

Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran advised Maxine to be a good hostess and enjoy the experience.

Charlene Gonzalez, who was one of the Top 6 finalists of Miss Universe 1994 held in Manila said Maxine is already a winner to all Filipinos adding that she has already made the country proud.

Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up Miriam Quiambao agreed to Diaz’ advise adding that doing well in Q&A portion allows a candidate to show her intelligence and eloquence as a Miss Universe spokesperson. Miriam also believes Maxine can make the most out of it whatever language she chooses to use.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s advice for Maxine was very simple: To relax.

Malacañang also expressed its support for Maxine. Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that it is an honor for the Philippines to host the international pageant.
