Megan Young is 2013 most beautiful woman in the world

The Philippines’ bet Megan Young has been crowned Miss World 2013 during the pageant’s coronation night on September 28 (Saturday) at Bali, Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia

Megan bested 126 beauty queens from around the world to become the first Filipina to win the coveted title, breaking a popular urban legend that no Filipina will ever win the Miss World crown. The closest the Philippines came to win the Miss World title before were in 1973 with Evangeline Pascual and in 2011 with Gwendoline Ruais, who both finished first runner-up.

The 23-year-old Filipino-American actress and TV host entered the semifinal round with the highest score based on preliminary activities. She topped the “Top Model” competition, placed fourth in the “Multimedia Challenge” and fifth in the “Beach Beauty” contest.

Her answer to the question on why she should win Miss World, ““I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do. I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other … as one, we can help society,” won over the answers of Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter who placed third and Miss France Marine Lorphelin who placed second.

Other candidates who entered the semi-final round were Miss Netherlands Jacquelne Steenbeek, Sports; Miss Brazil Sancler Frantz, Beach Fashion (Balinese Beach Fabric); Miss India Navneet Dhillon, Multimedia; and Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha, Beauty With A Purpose.

This is the first time the Philippines has won a Miss World title crown in the 63-year history of the London-based pageant. The country has won the Miss Universe title twice, Miss International four times, Miss Earth once and Miss Supranational also once.

Megan took the crown from Wenxia Yu of China, the 2012 winner.
