Miss Czech Republic is Miss Earth 2012 as Filipina beauty wins Miss Air

A 23 year-old student from Czech Republic bested 79 other contenders to win the Miss Earth 2012 at the coronation held Saturday night at the Versailles Palace in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Tereza Fajksová thus won for her country their first crown in the environment-centered pageant.

The Philippines’ Stephany Stefanowitz, a model, fashion designer, host, singer, and beauty queen from Quezon City, was named Miss Air (1st runner-up). Competing the court are Venezuela’s Osmariel Villalobos, Miss Water (2nd runner-up); and Brazil’s Camila Brant, Miss Fire (3rd runner-up).

Fajksová was emotional when she was crowned by Miss Earth 2011 Olga Álava of Ecuador.  The former then took the runway but tripped on her evening gown while doing her victory walk. She quickly regained her composure with the help of her fellow contestant.

Completing the Top 8 finalists are bets from South Africa (Tamerin Jardine), Russia (Natalia Pereverzeva), Nepal (Nagma Shrestha), and the United States of America (Siria Bojorquez).

Special awards are given to India’s Prachi Mishra for Miss Congeniality; Venezuela’s Osmariel Villalobos, Miss Photogenic; and Thailand’s Waratthaya Wongchayaporn, Best in National Costume.

This year’s pageant is in accordance with the UN General Assembly’s declaration of 2012 as the “International Year of Sustainable Energy for All”, which aims to ensure universal access to modern energy services.
