Sandara Park signs solo contract as 2NE1 disbands


South Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment has announced the disbandment of the famous 2NE1, its official girl group for seven years.

The exclusive contract of the group, composed of Minzy, CL, Bom, and Dara, expired in May 2016. 2NE1 is behind the hits “Fire,” “I Am the Best” and “I Don’t Care,” among others.
Its youngest member, Minzy, officially left the group on April 5, but YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk expressed his desire to continue with the remaining three members.

The company however encountered difficulty for the group’s next promotions and have decided to focus on the members’ solo activities. YG also announced that Sandara Park and CL have signed solo contracts but Park Bom did not renew her contract.

Sandara started her showbiz career in the Philippines where she rose to fame while a contestant during the first season of “Star Circle Quest” in 2004. She signed with Star Magic as she officially began her music career. Her self-titled EP, “Sandara,” debuted atop the Philippine charts and remains the only album by a Korean born act to be certified platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry. .Her first lead acting role in the movie “Bcuz of U,” won for her the Best New Actress award at the PMPC Star Awards for Movies. She was also a part of the jury of the ABS-CBN talent search “Pinoy Boyband Superstar.”
