Shamcey Supsup pioneers a new catwalk style

A new catwalk style has been unintentionally popularized by Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup who won the 3rd runner-up spot in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant

According to Missosology, an organization that features beauty pageants, the term now known as the “tsunami catwalk” originated from Shamcey’s Columbian trainer who likened the way she walks to graceful wave action.

Former Bb. Pilipinas Universe and now personality development instructor Abbygale Arenas de Leon said the unique catwalk skill is characterized by a distinctive sway of the hips.

The former beauty queen added that Shamcey’s distinct style of modeling gave a new meaning to personality especially to the outfit that she was wearing.

Arenas de Leon also revealed that during her time a beauty queen must have the ability to elegantly execute the ‘glide,’ which is characterized by less movement of the upper part of the body.

The Philippines is among the few countries that have won the Ms. Universe title at least twice, Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973.

Other countries which have won the title twofold are Brazil, Australia, Japan, India, Canada, Finland, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, and Thailand.
