Starstruck winner’s gay role gets positive feedback

Moviegoers who watched the closing indie film of Cinemalaya at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last month “Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington” all agreed that Martin Escudero is a stunning discovery.

The “Starstruck” winner’s impeccable comic talent is such a revelation that it served as the crowning glory of the movie.

Remington (Martin Escudero) is a naughty youngster who is fond of teasing and making fun of gays. An aging gay (Roderick Paulate), who happens to be a sorcerer, curses him that he’ll turn gay when he grows up.

Martin revealed he prepared for the role by viewing DVDs of various local and foreign gay films including those starring Roderick Paulate, Dennis Trillo, Patrick Swayze, and Wesley Snipes.

Although it’s his first gay role, the young actor said he will try to do any character for as long as it is challenging. He added that being typecast in gay roles doesn’t concern him at all. He admitted tough that mastering gayspeak was the bigger challenge.

Martin is now with TV5 and is looking forward to more exciting projects after “Zombadings.”
